Assignment Eleven: Patterns of Errors

In my writing I have noticed that I tend to have many run on sentences especially on my first draft because I like to just write what ever is on my mind with out thinking about any grammatical errors. This gets very overwhelming sometimes, I feel like my writing seems very unprofessional because I know how to correct them but I happen to forget to. It is difficult for me to avoid sometimes, but I am going to try to revise my essays thoroughly to avoid these errors.

I have also noticed that I use these common words: "like", "that," "which", and "and." I feel that using these words so often and very frequently makes my essays seem as if a high school student wrote my essay. In order for me to avoid such issue I am going to reword many of my sentences and avoid using these three words very often.

In some cases I don't always specify what I am talking about. I notice that am talking about something and then end up talking about something else. This is more likely to confuse my readers and they may loose their interest in my writing. I know that I have done these errors a lot, but sometimes I don't want to be so repetitive. However, I will try my best to make sure I specify the topic or person I am talking about throughout my paragraphs, so my papers will be relevant.

Assignment Ten: Thinking Critically About Peer Review

I find the peer review discussions in class very helpful, especially when I have good peer reviewers. When I do, I get a good understanding of the assignment's requirements. My peer reviewers are usually very helpful; however, there are other peer reviewers confuse me even more. But other than that, I think that it's really helpful because I get more ideas on what to write about in my essays. It helps me come up with new things to write about by looking at other people's essays and by the feed back of my peer reviewers. We spend a great amount of time peer reviewing which gives me a lot of time to go through my essay careful and fixing all types errors. I think that the questions we receive for peer editing are a bit helpful; although, they can be a bit repetitive.
I believe I am a tough peer reviewer. When I review my paper, I write comments like "this is dumb" or other mean things, but the only reason why I say things like this is because it's my own paper, and I feel that I write many things that do not make sense. For other people I try not to be very mean; however, I do tell people that they need to reword sentences or come up with better ideas. I am very honest when it comes to telling someone that their paper doesn't make sense or that they need to keep working on it because doesn't have certain requirements, only because I am trying to help them. My weaknesses are that I may not be as clear as I am supposed to be in answering peer review questions and such.
My ideal peer review process would be having more than one or two person read my paper helpful so that I get more people's ideas. I think that the peer review should have a check list instead of having so many questions. Including some questions would be fine, but not so many. We are given the right amount of time for peer reviewing it gives me enough time for a person to read and review my essay and for me to review other people's essay.

Assignment Nine: A Choice in Topics

I never thought I would end up attending NEIU. I wonder how my college experience would have been if I matriculated at another institution. I am barely a freshmen, but I have to say that I enjoy Northeastern because it is a small university where everything is easy to access; I don't have to walk long distances or for blocks to get to my classes, nor do I have to attend over crowded classrooms. So far, I have had great instructors that have taught me new things I never knew about and gave me some tips on how to survive throughout the rest of my college career. I came into Northeastern only knowing that two people who attended my high school; however, I have met some wonderful people who I think will be my friends for the years to come. I love the fact that at the University has a tutoring center who provides me with plenty of help in any of my homework. The best part of NEIU is that I feel like I am right at home, I can be at any place around the University and feel comfortable. There's always something going on around the University,  I always find something to do on my breaks such as homework, hang out with friends, or go to the gym. Across the campus you come across so many people whom you always see around and it's great to see people often because that is how I have made friends. I have met many people from different ethnicity's, which I find to be very interesting, because I get to learn new things from them. I don't know where I would have gone if wasn't NEIU because so far I like Northeastern and would like to continue matriculating here, so I can complete my education.
